According to Elon, the decision was intended to provide greater transparency into how the platform works and ultimately help improve the experience for users. But others have viewed the decision more critically, arguing that the open-sourced code isn't particularly useful without additional context on how the company is actually it.
As to whether Threads will follow a similar approach, it's highly unlikely! The Threads team will almost certainly be focused on user growth and retention for the foreseeable future.
